Our goal is to become a community model of sustainable development, working together and in harmony with Mother Earth.

Permacultura Caimito is an ongoing project that takes place in the small town of Caimito, which consists of 15 families that work primarily in the production of cacao, banana, papaya, and other tropical fruits, on the coast of the province of Esmeraldas in Ecuador.

We offer two forms of volunteering:

  1. General volunteering, in which volunteers are able to choose which specific fields they would like to work in (e.g., English teaching, construction, agriculture, etc.)
  2. The Tropical Permaculture Apprenticeship, in which volunteers participate in thematic workshops led by our team of permaculture experts to learn and carry out sustainable agriculture, ecological conservation, eco-construction, and community development.

Both forms of volunteering allow volunteers to develop a coherent understanding and vision of ecological sustainability and social unity as they live, learn, work, and play alongside residents of Caimito. The captivating landscape in which Caimito is embedded and the invigorating seascape it borders never fail to inspire awe and give volunteers a clear and tangible reason why our efforts to live in equilibrium with the natural environment are so important.
