The school is dedicated to providing quality musical instruction to children and adults alike. Giving the Gift Of Music to children is our biggest ambition.

We have set out the following objectives to help us achieve this ambition:

  1. To provide music learning opportunities for the under privileged children.
  2. To provide an avenue for kids where they can express and or show their musical skills.
  3. To network with organizations and music colleges having similar objectives.
  4. To impart skills that the underprivileged kids can use as a source of income or vocation.

Through the combined efforts of both the teachers and the students, Nyali Music School & Centre has pioneered numerous music initiatives that have raised the music appreciation levels in Mombasa and Kenya.

The centre is also home to several community groups that gather to rehearse on a weekly basis, bringing together musicians and music lovers from Mombasa & around the world. The school continues to grow giving the children an opportunity to shine in the concert halls and discover the full potential in music education!

VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS

The music of Kenya is very diverse with multiple types of folk music based on the variety of more than 40 regional languages. Folk music includes both traditional music and the genre that evolved from it during the 20th century folk revival.

Kenya's diverse ethnic groups have their own folk music traditions though most have declined in popularity in recent years as gospel music became more popular.

The aim of this program is to make it possible for learners both from local and abroad to learn the different types of Kenyan music and how to play on different percussion instruments. This special class offers skills that help both local and visiting students learn how to make and play African music instruments such as Ohangla drums, Bongo drums, conga drums, Nyatiti and Orutu and many more. Through this program, students learn how to develop ways of preserving the rich culture in Kenya and Africa as a whole.

Our goal is to continue the Traditional African Music classes, but introduce modern drum sets and other traditional and modern music instruments from other parts of the world to allow our students to gain deeper knowledge in global music and culture as they explore their creative potential.
