Conservation Volunteering in California – Preserving pristine natural areas

Company : Natucate
Location : Santa Cruz/Big Sur Coast and Lake Tahoe – California, USA
Duration: 2 months to 3 months
Approx Costs: 1750 to 2500 € Euro

Travel to the United States and take part in an exciting 8-/12-week volunteer project in the Golden State! You will play an active role in different nature conservation projects on the West Coast, living amidst California's breathtaking wilderness. Your work on the project will take you to beautiful regions of the US state, well away from the beaten path, giving you a superb insight into California’s wild nature.

California has plenty to offer for nature lovers. The state has nine national parks, including the towering trees of Redwood National Park, the desert landscape of Death Valley National Park and beautiful and legendary Yosemite National Park. Your base station near Boulder Creek and/or Lake Tahoe is where you will start your time in several of the most beautiful parts of the Golden State. In between the single projects, you will have the chance to go on road trips to visit the highlights of the Golden State and its neighbours along with your fellow team members.

Your stay will begin with an intensive safety course and training which will show you how to use your tools properly. You will then spend six to nine days on the project with three to six days off in between each project unit. Each international team of about 10 members will work on different tasks, focusing on trail building and maintenance. You will work no longer than 10 hours per day. However, please be aware that physical work can be extremely challenging and uncertain weather.

You will stay in tents, either in the wilderness or on camping sites with washing facilities. We will provide the tent no matter where you end up spending the night. Breakfast, lunch and dinner during the projects are all included in the price and are prepared by the team. On off days, you need to take care of your daily meals yourself. You will return to your base station near Boulder Creek, located in a Redwood forest, after every project and will have three to six days off for free time activities. If you join the project for 12 weeks, you will additionally get involved in conservation work at Lake Tahoe (6 weeks Boulder Creek + 6 weeks Lake Tahoe).
