We are working to improve the quality and accessibility of education for women and children who live in extreme poverty.

Our Opportunities

Volunteers are extremely important to Light and Leadership. Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

* Education Programs

Our education programs are our largest programs and demand a constant supply of volunteers. Volunteer with us to teach English*, French*, Art, Physical Education and Dance. All classes are taught to children ages 7-17.
*Must be a native speaker

* Women's Empowerment

Light and Leadership's Women's program holds a great deal of potential. As this program develops, we need volunteers to lead educational workshops, trade workshops, English classes, and help coordinate other special events. Volunteers should possess a sincere interest in women's issues and be conversational in Spanish.

* Community Development and Leadership

Every month, Light and Leadership organizes community leadership projects with our participants. These projects combine our goals of Education and Leadership perfectly. To read more, please check out our Community Leadership Projects page. Volunteers interested in this opportunity should plan their stay for the end of the month, as Projects are often coordinated for the last Saturday or Sunday of each month.

Accomodation

Volunteers are housed directly above our program site in Zone D in Huaycan. Volunteers live comfortably on the third floor. The house is complete with a kitchen, computer and Internet access, a common room with a balcony, and a rooftop. To ensure volunteer safety, a security guard is present from the afternoon until early mornings.Program Site

Living in the community offers so many advantages to our volunteers. As a volunteer, you’ll better understand the challenges our participants face, greatly improve your Spanish and discover Peruvian culture. It also significantly reduces the transportation costs as a volunteer—we are within walking distance to banks, markets, and our participants’ homes!
