It is also a national committee that belongs to the ICYE Federation, which is headquartered in Berlin and has national committees of over 30 different countries.

ICYE Taiwan was established in 1992, for the purpose of providing Taiwanese youth an opportunity to travel abroad and to take part in volunteering through international volunteer programmes; and with the challenging intercultural learning experiences that the young people acquired during their voluntary work and their stay abroad, they will be able to create positive impacts not only on the local communities and the working project where they work, but also more importantly the volunteers’ own life and perspectives, such as social and intercultural understanding, equality of opportunity, tolerance and peace among people in the world.

The association realizes its mission by:

  • organizing international voluntary service projects (diverse short- and long-term projects) and sending Taiwanese youth to such projects in foreign countries;
  • supporting and promoting local and international voluntary service and different forms of social activities;
  • arranging trainings, seminars and other educational activities such as workshops and thematic meetings.

The target group of the activities is mainly youth. Our activities are organized in cooperation with local partners such as local authorities, day-care centers, schools and NGOs.

ICYE strongly believes in the importance of reciprocal exchanges and inter-cultural learning. One thing that makes ICYE different from many other international volunteering organisations is that while it sends out every country’s own volunteers worldwide, it also receives and hosts incoming volunteers in community projects in the sending countries.
