The surfing project mainly aims at getting children off the streets and giving them something fun and rewarding to do to occupy their time. Most of these children see surfing as something out of reach as they can barely afford food to eat, let alone a surf board and a wet suit.

The main aim of the program is not to make them become the best surfers in the world but to give them stability, get them focused on going to school through positive support and to get them off the streets. The actual surfing development takes place on Thursday, Saturdays and Sundays. On the other days of the week, volunteers take part in surf lifesaving, reading and writing skills, life orientation and ocean awareness amongst other activities.

Volunteers will also help with fund-raising activities, fitness training and helping at surfing events (due to the fact the program runs on Saturdays and Sundays, volunteers will also get two days off per week which is arranged with the staff member in charge of this project once you start the program). The surf project is loads of fun and your efforts and hard work will be met with great appreciation by the children.
