Sea turtle conservation on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica

Soak up the beauty and sunshine of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, help to conserve rare species of turtle and gain a valuable insight into marine biology by taking part in this unique volunteer project.

General Info

Poaching of turtle eggs has led to a serious decline in the number of marine turtles on the Costa Rican coast. Taking part in this project will not only be a great opportunity to help safeguard the existence of these fascinating animals as well as absorbing the stunning local scenery.

You will be working 5 to 6 days a week which will be a mix of day and night patrols on flexible shifts. Your activities will include data and measurement gathering, beach cleaning, watching for turtles that have come to lay their eggs and general building and maintenance work of the hatcheries.

You may also be able to increase awareness of importance of conservation and the research you are doing in amongst the local community at schools and fundraisers. In the low season (June and July) you will have the choice of helping with construction of the hatchery.
