General Info

"Favelas" or shantytown areas have a bad reputation in Brazil but are in fact home to hard working and friendly locals. By taking part in this project you can help to not only improve the standard of life for the local community but also to change perceptions the people who live in the favelas.

Your first two weeks at the project will include 20 hours of Portuguese lessons, for 2 hours a day. Your schedule will be subject to the needs of the project as well as the Brazilian weather! Generally you will work 3 times each week splitting your time between physical and mental activities; painting, decorating, renovation, maintaining public spaces, construction, organising recreational activities and developing awareness campaigns about sexual health and HIV/AIDS.

You’ll be working alongside local people and spending time with children from the community. This is your chance to get creative and share your skills; arrange any arts, cultural and educational activities you can think of!

What's Included

Accommodation:Shared room in guesthouse

Food:Food is not included; you will need to purchase your own food (approximately US$50 per week)

Airport Pickup:Included on arrival date. Ask us for details if you're arriving early!

Training:In-country orientation, 20 hours of Portuguese language lessons

Support:Pre-departure helpdesk, Local in-country team and 24hr emergency support

Benefits:

Trip prices vary depending on activity and duration. Our volunteer projects start from £499, Adventures start from £699 and Tours start from £599.
