Work on critical conservation efforts focused on Jaguars and Sea Turtles within the Tortugeuro National park.

Join this conservation program based in the heart of the Tortuguero National park, home to endangered sea turtles; jaguars and a plethora of fauna and flora.

As a volunteer you will be given the opportunity to work alongside highly esteemed conservation organizations such as Costa Rican Ministry of Environment, Panthera, Coastal Jaguar Conservation and the Sea Turtle Conservancy. You will be working on a diverse range of projects dependent on season, you could be working on biodiversity surveys; tracking and camera trapping of Jaguars and beach walks to record data on nesting turtles.

A large part of the research conducted is focused on the behavior of the Jaguars as they prey on the Sea Turtles within the National Park, one of the only places in the world where you can study this phenomenon.

As a volunteer you may also be responsible for data input activities.

This program includes an optional Wildlife Conservation online courses which must be completed in order to obtain a certificate offered in partnership with the University of Richmond in the United States.

Since we opened our doors in 1998, we have spent over 65% of all funds directly on our projects. It is our mission to support field operations in the long term. Rather than abandon programs that recruit fewer volunteers we strategically invest from our fully staffed sites to help maintain our presence across the globe. The remaining 35% that is not directly invested in our programs covers the cost of volunteer recruitment, the operations of our head office.

GVI Wildlife Rainforest Volunteer Expedition in Costa Rica Reviews

Great experience

I was a 6 weeks volunteer in Jalova, Costa Rica in 2019.  It was my first experience as a volunteer and I had a really good time ! I learned so much about conservation and wildlife species 🐆🐢🕊 The staff members were very friendly, passionate, always around and happy to help. The interns and volunteers were very nice and devoted. The base was beautiful within the jungle and just next to the beach ! We did many incredible surveys walking along the beach at night and day, walking through the forest or even on boats! I'm looking forward to my next trip with GVI and I definitely recommend to anyone 😊
