Itinerary

Our routes have been carefully chosen to include the best night stops and highlights. However, as local and operational conditions may vary and unforeseen circumstances can arise, the following itinerary should be used as a guideline.

Day 1: Anchorage to Denali National Park
Journey north from Anchorage for two full days in Denali National Park - "The Great One". Abundant wildlife, excellent hiking and unspoiled wilderness, ensure the perfect start to an unforgettable journey.
Accommodation: Cabins included. Meals paid locally.

Day 2-3: Denali National Park
Home to Mt. McKinley, the tallest peak in North America, grizzly bears, caribou, Dall sheep, marmots and wolves all roam the park. Activities such as river rafting, dog sled demonstrations and nature trail walks are available. The following two days are free to explore the backcountry, which offers scenic views of the taiga and sub-arctic tundra. There are superb opportunities to view wildlife, and access to limitless hiking options for all fitness and adventure levels. Experience the true grandeur of Mt McKinley on an optional helicopter flight.

Day 4-5: Alaska Range & Dawson City
Choose to canoe the beautiful MacClaren River or stretch your legs on the tundra covered hills of the Alaska Range. Heading north on the scenic "Top of the World Highway" we head into the Yukon Territory and arrive at Dawson City. We camp at the banks of the mighty Yukon River and gamble at Diamond Tooth Gertie's Saloon.

Day 6: Yukon
It's still further north into Canada's Northwest Territories and across the Arctic Circle to Inuvik.

Day 7-8: Inuvik
Canada's northernmost town! Be prepared for some remote and sparse facilities, as we experience first hand, the lifestyle and cultures of the Dene, Metis and Inuvialuit peoples in this frontier town. Take an optional flight to the town of Tuktoyaktuk on the coast of the Arctic Ocean to gain a unique insight into this remote and hardy community.

Day 9: Yukon
Return south along the scenic Demspter Highway.
Accommodation: Camping with meals included

Day 10: Dawson City
Sample the legendary Sour-Toe cocktail, try your hand at gold panning or hike up to Midnight Dome.

Day 11: Whitehorse
Follow the trail of the original Sourdough miners along the Yukon River to Whitehorse and wander the streets of this old frontier capital. Why not go for a horseback riding with the gang at Sky High Ranch (optional).

Day 12-13: Kluane National Park
The Yukon's premier National Park, Kluane, beckons next with a lovely waterside campsite along the shoreline of Lake Kluane. Hike up Sheep Mountain or relax by the lake, soaking up the serene beauty.

Day 14: Tok
The small community of Tok sits at 1600 feet high in the mountains and is home to the first Alaskan Highway, built in the 1940's. This is the home of the world famous Pancake Toss competition, with a chance to win a hearty pancake breakfast.

Day 15-16: Wrangell St.Elias National Park
On to America's largest National Park, Wrangell-St. Elias. With two nights at our wonderfully eclectic ranch in the "bush town" of McCarthy, you will have plenty of time to explore the abandoned copper mining town of Kennicott. Hike along the Kennicott and Root glaciers, try your hand at ice-climbing or take a scenic flight past the towering mountains and endless glaciers to experience this vast and rugged wilderness.

Day 17-18: Valdez
Tucked away at the end of a glacier-carved fjord, Valdez is the most northerly ice-free port in the Western Hemisphere and the terminus of the Alaskan Pipeline. Choose to sea kayak amongst the Columbia Glacier icebergs, an opportunity not to be missed!

Day 19: Kenai Fjords National Park
Board the Valdez to Whittier Ferry across Prince William Sound, where we are greeted with more stunning scenery as we pass by the immense Columbia Glacier.
Accommodation: Cabins included. Meals paid locally.

Day 20: Kenai Fjords National Park
Embark on an incredible full-day scenic cruise (optional) to the Kenai Fjords National Park; gliding past calving glaciers, numerous sea bird colonies and perhaps a pod of orcas hunting for salmon.

Day 21: Kenai Fjords National Park to Anchorage
We journey north along the Kenai Peninsula returning to Anchorage in the afternoon. Our Alaska Yukon adventure comes to an end but if you're not flying out tonight, it's the perfect opportunity for a farewell dinner and a fine Alaskan brew.

Tour ends at approx 17:00 hrs in Anchorage on day 21.
