Info

Teach English, Math, Sciences or Sports in Tanzania! Do something meaningful and volunteer in one of the most beautiful countries in East Africa.

Tanzania's two official languages are Swahili and English, and English is very useful to get a job in the country, especially in the tourism sector. Therefore it is important for Tanzanian schools to teach English to children from the youngest age. However, working with limited resources most schools don't have quality English teachers. Native English speaking volunteers help meet this need.

Gap year volunteers teach children in primary and secondary schools, and can also teach English to young adults. Teaching during your gap year is the opportunity to make a real difference helping underprivileged communities to develop. This is a chance for children from underprivileged backgrounds to interact with native speakers and improve their English through interactive activities such as drama or singing.
There is also the opportunity to teach Math and Sciences in Secondary Schools: classes are taught in English but there is a real lack of good teachers.
This is a very rewarding gap year project, during which you can make a real difference helping schools to provide better education by teaching English in Tanzania.

Gap year in Tanzania is also an ideal opportunity to explore the country. Spending your gap year in Africa you will help you discover an ancient culture of tribes while living in the local community. You will have the chance to travel around during your spare time.

If you want to prepare yourself teaching abroad, GapGuru offers the opportunity to take part of a TEFL training week end.
