Spiritual India is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. With 1.3 billion inhabitants and the strain this places on the healthcare system, you will be sure to find a medical placement here that will be both challenging and rewarding. An aging population and an increasing number of Hospital cases relating to lifestyle as opposed to disease has meant a large increase in funding in recent years for hospitals in India. On your medical placement here you will be part of a busy hospital, shadowing doctors who often find themselves stretched to the limits of both resources and time to cope with patient admissions. You will be amazed at what the Doctors can do and how resourceful they can be in the face of limited equipment and challenging conditions.

Outside your medical placement there is a plethora of things for you to see and do from our base in Tamil Nadu. You can start the day with an early morning Yoga class if you wish held in the Gap Medics house, then on weekends you and your fellow students can do anything from trekking in the Yelagiri hills, visit ancient temples pay a visit to the tiger reserves or soak up some sun in marina Beach in Chennai. Perhaps one of the best ways to spend a weekend is with your fellow students living on a house boat cruising the Kerala lakes and dining under the stars.

Students all live together in our Gap Medics house with full time staff teams within the country including programme manager, student mentors, cater, housekeeper and 24 hour security.
