The hostel where you will be placed is a travel-center, popular with international travelers, located in the center of Jerusalem. The hostel is dedicated to the promotion and execution of ecological travel while maintaining a fun and dynamic hostel environment full of curious international travelers interested in learning more about their fascinating surroundings.  Interns will become an integral part of the hostel staff, contributing towards the day to day running and operation of the hostel.

The hostel is dedicated to providing the best travel experience for foreign backpackers and independent travelers, and showing them the best that Jerusalem and Israel have to offer. It offers a range of services and facilities such as an on-site tour company, travel desk, bar, huge lounge with daily evening activities, a rooftop, a free daily tour to the old city, and much much more.

Despite being one of the largest hostels in Israel,  we aim to maintain that welcoming, family run, small hostel feel. The internship programme was created specifically for this reason, to create a dynamic and fun atmosphere at the hostel by interacting with like-minded international guests that are constantly passing through. Interns and guests typically explore the city together and learn more about this incredible place.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

Upon arrival in Jerusalem, you will be given a comprehensive orientation to prepare you for your upcoming placement. You will be provided with detailed travel advice and taken on a walking tour of the Old City and the famous Machane Yehuda market. We will even provide you with a discount card to experience Jerusalem’s vibrant night-life!

Throughout the placement you will be involved in several important tasks. Some of these include "chaperoning" groups of  guests to and from the daily walking tour offered by the hostel, helping to plan, execute, and promote social activities and events within the hostel facilities (including but not limited to pub crawls, open mic nights, games, parties, etc.), and maintaining the daily flow of the hostel (serving breakfast, tidying up around the hostel and serving in the bar at night).

Your help may also be needed in the hostel kitchen and bar to serve  guests and to do light cleaning around the hostel. You will also help to arrange and plan the weekly communal Shabbat dinner which is cooked together with the hostel chef and guests. We urge volunteers to come with an open mind and their own initiative.

Above all, the hostel is looking for  interns who enjoy constantly interacting with the international guests to contribute to the friendly, hospitable and fun environment.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Event planning
  • Serving breakfast
  • Serving in the bar
  • Light cleaning around the common areas of the hostel (no room cleaning)
  • Guiding  guests on daily activities around Jerusalem

You will be expected to work 6 hours per day, 5 days per week although your detailed itinerary will be agreed with your coordinator upon arrival. There will also be weekly team meetings (one hour) and occasional team projects. Please also be aware that your days off may not necessarily coincide with weekends.
