It boasts mile upon mile of untamed wonder and natural splendour from its beautiful white- capped mountains, mysterious, abundant waters, and lush fertile forests to the rich array of wildlife that they provide home to. Arriving in winter will also surely give you an extra treat as you marvel at the magnificence of the northern lights!

The Frontier-Canada Kayak with Orca’s 6 day expedition offers you a chance to paddle amongst the apex predator of the ocean, travelling along one of the greatest kayak routes in North America, visiting ancient native ruins and keeping an eye out for all the incredible wildlife on show. You will traverse the entire Broughton Archipelago and its enchanting islands, experiencing both scenic paddling and intriguing history in one of the most stunning seascapes on earth, before entering the Johnstone Strait. 

The diversity and abundance of wildlife in the Pacific Northwest is unparalleled with river run-off from the mountains, ocean currents, tide rips, eddies and upwelling’s these waters are among the most productive on earth. From the rich and colourful plants and invertebrates to orca’s, seabirds, sea lions, and whales, you are bound to see wildlife that will take your breath away.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING? 

Your 6 day kayaking with Orca’s expedition will take you on an action packed adventure from paddling with pods of Orca to sampling the local delicacy of wild sockeye salmon. Day by day you will take in all Canada has to offer, its abundance in wildlife and majestic beauty. 

Expedition Itinerary

Expedition briefing:

The day before your project start date you will meet up with the team and our guides will go over the logistics of the expedition and answer any questions or concerns you may have. 

Day 1:

After being picked up, you will travel to the historic Telegraph Cove and enjoy a picnic lunch. You will then hop on a water taxi and journey to the first campsite. Weather permitting you will get out for your first introductory paddle after a kayak briefing from your guides. 

Day 2:

After breakfast you will pack your kayaks and begin your expedition. The first day will be spent beginning to explore the islands of Broughton Archipelago and the vastness of the Johnstone Strait. Enjoy the stunning views and wildlife while en route to the camp for the night. 

Day 3-5:

Continue your adventure paddling amongst the majestic scenery of Broughton Archipelago with forested islands and protected passages. You will then go back in time by visiting the ancient village site of Mamalillacula, and learn about the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations people. Make sure you keep your eyes and ears on the lookout for Orca’s and the many other marine and land animals that call this area home. 

Day 6:

This is your last day to enjoy the marine environment of Johnstone Strait and the Broughton Archipelago. A taxi boat will pick you up in the afternoon and bring you back to Quadra Island and/or Cambell River.
