English Volunteers Peru

We aim to bring English-speaking volunteers to help out with classes and extra-curricular activities at our school.

We place volunteers in a school called Nueva Generación. It is a small private primary school in the district of Villa el Salvador, the most underdeveloped and heavily populated district of Lima. There are 5-10 children per class. It offers a safer place of study and a better quality education than the state schools in the area, and only charges the families a minimal fee to maintain the running of the school.

Support we provide:
• We will pick you up from the airport when you arrive.
• We will help you become familiar with Lima, show you around, get you up and running with public transport, provide lodging or help you find a place to rent.
• We will be flexible with giving you time off to go travelling around the country. There’s loads to see here.
• We will help you find Spanish classes if you would like to take some.
• We will always be an e-mail or phone-call away if you need any assistance while you’re off site, whether you want help planning your next trip around Peru or finding the best places to eat.

Possible roles for volunteers:

Classroom Assistant/Teacher
You can support the English teacher with his classes, and if you feel confident enough, eventually take some classes yourself! We will provide lots of support for you, and you will learn loads as you will be given the freedom to experiment with teaching methods and content of your choice.

Activities Assistant/Leader
Most children stay in the school until 5:30pm every day as their parents work and cannot support child-minders. The school offers help with homework, exam revision and extra-curricular activities for these children from 2pm-5:30pm. The activities involve preparing dance performances, making chocolate truffles and arts and crafts. You may help out with one of the existing activities, or use your own talents to set one up yourself!

Time

We are very flexible with the amount of hours volunteers work. You can work alternate days, one day a week, 2 hours a day or 10…it’s up to you! Our academic year is from March-December (December is our summer), but we also run a summer school.

Charges

We are a non-profit organization. Any charges we make will be to cover the small costs of picking you up from the airport and your lodging if you choose to stay in the accommodation we offer you.
