After I had completed my first year of teaching in China with a small company, I knew that I wanted to come back and do more. I thought I might come back for two more years. I wanted to make sure to have some growth and not just burn another year. Don't get me wrong. I love teaching, but I wasn't interested in being *just* another English teacher in China. That's what drew me towards EF. I knew that the only chance I had of career growth and development while also teaching in China was going to be with a big company rather than some struggling half-ass kindergarten.
I was right. I was sponsored for my TEFL and got a TKT qualification in my first year. At 1.5 years I was promoted to another part of the company. It's now been 4 years. Even though I know that my time in China is coming to a close, I am looking at job prospects back home knowing that I made the best of it.
I've been with EF for a little over 2 years now. The company is well established; you can always expect to get paid on time, teaching content is created in-house, and there are opportunities for development if you actively seek it. It's a great opportunity to work with people from all over the world.
It wasn't hard choosing this company other others. My main concern was a having a legal Chinese work visa, hotel accommodation, training, and support during my first few months in China. The rest was easy, because EF made this experience both easy and enjoyable. They were upfront about expectations, and delivered what they promised. Now, 2 years later I'm still here in a new positon, a prime example of their professional development options. Thank you EF.
Moving to China in my mid-twenties honestly changed my life. I started with and have stayed with EF since then, and feel really lucky I've gotten to grow with the company. It's not easy to explain all the reasons I love China, but I know that I love EF because of the people I work with and the fact that we are always evolving to provide better courses to our students. We also have team-building meals A LOT. I know that I could make more money elsewhere, but the stability and opportunity I've had in EF, plus small perks has kept me happy. I've lived in two different cities, and traveled to a half dozen more and there is still a lot to explore with the country and with the job.
