CAYDNET is located at Akim-Oda and Akim Swedru. All in the Birim South District and Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region of Ghana. Both are twin towns and all are administrative capitals. Akim Swedru is where the project would be carried out. It is one of the newly created Districts that was carved out of the old Birim South District to quicken the development of the area. It is located 3.5 km from Akim-Oda, the old capital of the Birim South District and now the capital for the Birim Central Municipality. From Akim Oda to Accra is about 125 Km. And from Akim Swedru to Accra, the national capital Accra is also about 128.5km. All in the eastern part of Ghana. CAYDNET works directly with any volunteer or group of volunteers wanted to partner or work with CAYDNET. CAYDNET is not an agency that charges volunteers for placement. The project would involve the construction of classroom block in the town of Akim Swedru Communities in the Birim South Districts and Birim Central Municipal respectively. The project which the organization is requesting for volunteer assistance is a continuation of the crèche and the Kindergarten project constructed by EGP in 2010 and 2011 respectively at Akim Swedru. This would enable the centre to accommodate the excessive growing number of vulnerable children enrolled in the school and also give a continuous education to the disadvantaged and vulnerable children between the ages of 2 -15 who are already in the school and those are yet to be enrolled into the crèche, nursery, Kindergarten and Primary department. This would also enable the organization mainstreamed children who have neglected and have not dreamed of having a formal education in life be educated in the centre so as to achieve our aim of aiding the vulnerable in the AKIM SWEDRU community and its surrounding villages. The volunteer would assist the technical artisans in the construction. The volunteers would be involved in the field of * Masons, * carpentry, * Steel works * Electricals * Plumbing works Including ** Mixing and carry of concrete ** Packing and carrying of blocks **Helping carry building materials **Bricklaying **Painting and decorating, **Electricals and plumbing, **Roofing The volunteers would assist the technical artisans in the construction, they would work alongside with CAYDNET volunteers and the beneficiary community to ensure that the project is perfectly done and completed. Construction project is physically demanding and volunteers should make sure they are in excellent health when taking decision. Other activities volunteers would be involved are: •2) Teaching in the School. Volunteer would be needed to teach in the Community Integrated and other partner and affiliate Schools. •3).HIV & AIDS education and prevention program. •Entrepreneurial & Skill Development Training •Community development work Volunteer accommodation The volunteers would live locally among the beneficial community in shared rooms with typically no more than 4 to a room. They would stay in either of the two different accommodations which have been Voluntarily given by the patriotic and concerned citizens in the community for free, on behalf of the chief and the people of Akim Swedru community as their quota in support of the proposed project. It can accommodate at least 8 volunteers and between 700meters and l mile to the project site. So far all the three batches of volunteers from the Edinburgh Global Partnerships(EGP) we have hosted: in 2008, (7 volunteers),2010(6volunteers) and 2011 (8) were all given that opportunity.
