We can relate to the Dutch. We adore pancakes, have pretty forward-thinking values, and are obsessed with the colour orange. We also love to party, and nobody parties better than the Dutch on King’s Day. You see streets flooded with concerts and raves, impossible events on canal boats, and bars more rowdy than your wildest New Year celebration. Do it Dutch, and experience King’s Day like a local!

Itinerary

Day 1. Amsterdam
In and around AmsterdamThe annual King’s Day celebrations fast approach! King Willem-Alexander Claus George Ferdinand demands that, on the day of his royal birth, any man, woman, or child finding themselves residing within the blessed Kingdom of the Netherlands party their socks off. But first, let’s get acquainted with Amsterdam.

We’ll meet at our hostel this afternoon before heading out into town for our included welcome dinner. Marvel at the Renaissance architecture and stunning houseboats drifting along the banks of Amsterdam’s gorgeous canals but make sure you’re not loitering in the bike lanes, as Dutch cyclists can be notoriously unforgiving! After dinner, join your group for an optional visit to the Casa Rosso Erotic show followed by a few drinks in town.

Day 2. Amsterdam
Today we’ll be embracing all things Dutch, and what better way to get things started than with a lovely bike ride? We’ll be wheeling off to the scenic countryside where we’ll tour a traditional cheese and clog factory (aka, the most Dutch thing imaginable!). This afternoon, visit the Heineken Experience to learn about brewing, and sample Holland’s favourite drink or check out the impressive works of Vincent van Gogh in his dedicated museum.

Alternatively, you can kick back and relax in this metropolitan wonderland, as you prepare for tonight’s festivities. Before King’s Day, comes King’s Night! This afternoon, you have the option to embark on our optional hour-long canal cruise. Later, join your guide for escapades of the drunken persuasion where you’ll (attempt to) keep pace with locals partying the night away.

Day 3. Amsterdam
Today, the King turns another year older and we mark the occasion with an insane, country-wide party. This thriving madness of orange-clad partiers is called Koningsdag (King’s Day) and is a tradition dating back to the 1800s. On this special day, streets all across the country will close. No cars drive, no trams run. This is a day for brightly dressed revellers looking for a celebration.

Our senses will be assaulted as Amsterdam transforms into a massive open air market, complete with live music. Every establishment in town is out to impress with events at every boat, bar, and club. Join your guide for a tour of all the best spots and be sure to live it up in the name of the King! Lang leve de koning!
